VALUATION
A simple guide to understanding
movers liability protection.
VALUATION (NOT INSURANCE)This term is used when referring to the level of protection on your belongings in the event of loss or damage that is the fault of the carrier. By this option, household goods carriers have a Basic Liability of $.60/pound.
FULL VALUE PROTECTIONThis valuation program entitles the carrier to repair, replace, or reimburse you for loss or damage based on the replacement value of the damaged article. A minimum value of $5.00 per pound is required to purchase Full Value Protection. You should declare value to a level which is appropriate for your household goods. You cannot undervalue your shipment. Full Value Protection is the preferred choice among our customers.
DEPRECIATED VALUATIONThis valuation program entitles the carrier to repair, replace, or reimburse you for loss or damage based on the depreciated value of the damaged article. A minimum value of $10,000 is required to qualify.
HIGH VALUE INDEMNITYAnything over $100.00 per pound needs its own policy and a separate inventory. Ask your salesperson. Please review the conditions of Item 2 on your Terms and Conditions page. Please refer to www.protectyourmove.gov or your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet for more information.
Terms and Conditions
Shuttle ServiceMoving household goods long distance is done using very large trucks. If a large moving van cannot ge close enough to your home to load or deliver, a smaller truck will be used to shuttle your belongings. There is a charge for this service. Our representatives can determine whether or not a shuttle is necessary at the home that we can see, but not at the home that we can’t see. When in doubt, ask to see a shuttle cost separately, in the event that it is needed.
High value ItemsThe Carrier will not accept liability for documents, money, jewelry, liquors, liquid, flammables, or any articles of extraordinary value including, but not limited to, digital cameras, laptops, and coins. We highly suggest you carry all personal items or irreplaceable items, such as family photos. Anything over $100.00 per pound needs its own policy, and beitemized on a separate high value inventory sheet. If you don’t inform us of high value items in writing on a separate inventory sheet, the basic rate of $.60 per pound /per item will apply.
Fire Arms
Any firearms transported by Preferred Movers must be unloaded and disarmed by the customer - firing pins need to be taken out; inventoried by you before the driver arrives; and consolidated into a safe area, packed by the driver only and loaded in a designated area in our van. All weapons need to be packed in an unmarked wardrobe box. Contact your move coordinator if you have any questions regarding this procedure. Ammunition will not be accepted for moving.
PaymentPayments may be made by certified check, Discover, Master Card, or Visa (3% handling fee), company check, money order, bank check, or cash. No personal checks will be accepted.
The Carrier is not responsible for three-piece lamps, particle board, plants, lampshades, and light bulbs.
The Carrier will not accept responsibility for the contents of a box or other containers if Carrier did not pack it professionally. PBO.
